2017 President’s Message

2017 President’s Message

From the Desk of the President

January 3, 2017

Good morning GABWA and Happy New Year!

I am equally excited, humbled and honored to greet you as your 2017 President.

For the past 35 years, the members of the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys have been the standard bearers for and personified excellence in our esteemed profession.  Indeed, GABWA’s members have excelled in every legal arena, defining and creating an enduring legacy of excellence in the legal community in Georgia and across our nation.  And, as we look to the next 35 years, my hope for each of you and our great organization is that we will be Empowered by a Legacy of Excellence in the Profession,” which is the GABWA 2017 theme.

In furtherance of our collective pursuit of excellence in 2017, GABWA will focus on projects and initiative that create and foster opportunities for excellence in our legal practices and service to and advocacy on behalf of our communities.  In each case, we will be guided by our mission To nurture, support and galvanize the power of black women attorneys, advocate for women and children, and empower our communities.”

The primary areas of focus in 2017 will be (i) bolstering GABWA’s infrastructure through technology to ensure that we can adequately serve our members; (ii) providing tangible benefits to our members that support their practices; (iii) increased opportunities to engage with and advocate on behalf of the communities in which we live and work; and (iv) the continued provision of substantive programming to support our members’ personal and professional development.

Indeed, in 2017, my hope is that GABWA will speak to some area of your life, whether it be your career advancement, personal growth or service to the community.  To that end, I encourage you to share your ideas and thoughts on how we may be of greater service to you and our communities.  Your engagement is key and I invite you to JOIN or RENEW your membership today.

I am happy to announce that in 2017, GABWA members will enjoy the following benefits:

  • A $30 discount on your subscription to the Atlanta Business Chronicle;
  • Discounted services and purchases at Natural Body Spa; and
  • Discounted office supply purchases and shipping services via Amplify.

Additional benefits will be added, so stay tuned!

This year, I have the distinct pleasure to serve alongside a tremendous team of servant leaders and invite you to join us on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 6pm, for the Installation of GABWA’s Officers and Leadership Team.   The installation ceremony will take place at Assembly Hall, Fulton County Government Center.  Please RSVP to rsvp@gabwa.org.

Again, I am honored to be of service to you and GABWA and look forward to working with you as we embark on the next 35 years of fulfilling GABWA’s mission and contributing to her enduring legacy of excellence in the profession.
